PGD PASGT Ballistic Helmet
The PGD PASGT ballistic helmet is a low-cut Kevlar helmet from Protection Group Denmark, tested to NIJ 0106.01 against Level IIIA threats. It reaches a fragment V50 of 660 m/s and comes in sizes L and XL.
NIJ IIIA rating: tested to NIJ 0106.01 against .44 Magnum and .357 SIG (NIJ 0101.06 threats).
Fragment protection: V50 of 660 m/s under STANAG 2920.
Less back face deformation: 50% reduction against 9 mm FMJ to HPW-TP-0401.01B IIIA.
Kevlar shell: 100% DuPont Kevlar aramid with a polyurea coating against water and liquids.
Two sizes: L for 56-59 cm and XL for 60-64 cm head circumference.
PGD PASGT: low-cut ballistic helmet with NIJ IIIA rating.
The PGD PASGT ballistic helmet is a low-cut Kevlar aramid helmet from Protection Group Denmark, designed according to the manufacturer for both civilian and military use, tested to NIJ 0106.01 against NIJ 0101.06 Level IIIA threats (.44 Magnum and .357 SIG) and rated V50 660 m/s against fragments under STANAG 2920.
Key Facts:

- Fragmentation: V50 660 m/s (STANAG 2920)
- Back face deformation: 50% reduction against 9 mm FMJ (HPW-TP-0401.01B IIIA)
- Affected area: Up to 75 mm, versus 130 mm for a standard military helmet according to PGD
- Shell: 100% Kevlar aramid from DuPont with polyurea spray coating
- サイズ L 56-59 cm, XL 60-64 cm head circumference
- 色: Black and OD Green
Ballistic performance:
The PASGT shell is tested to the NIJ 0106.01 helmet standard against NIJ 0101.06 Level IIIA threats: .44 Magnum and .357 SIG. PGD also lists two special threats: 9 x 18 mm MAK steel core (6.0 g) at 335 ± 10 m/s and 7.62 x 25 mm FMJ (5.5 g, lead core) at 520 ± 10 m/s. Against fragments the helmet reaches a V50 of 660 m/s under STANAG 2920. PGD also states a 50% reduction in back face deformation against 9 mm FMJ, measured to HPW-TP-0401.01B IIIA, and an affected area of up to 75 mm, compared with a 130 mm area on a standard military helmet.
Shell, liner and fit:
The low-cut shell is made of 100% Kevlar aramid from DuPont and finished with polyurea spray paint, which PGD says keeps water and other liquids from affecting the ballistic properties. Inside sits the PGD 10-pad memory foam liner, and the helmet is held in place by the PGD retention system. The PASGT comes in size L (56-59 cm) and XL (60-64 cm) in Black or OD Green.
PASGT or MICH2000:
Both helmets share the same NIJ 0106.01 rating and a V50 of 660 m/s. The difference is the shape: PGD states that the PASGT leaves no space for communication equipment under the helmet, whereas the MICH2000 is designed to fit headsets underneath. Choose the MICH2000 if you wear a comms headset.
What is included:
PGD lists the low-cut ballistic helmet, the PGD retention system and the PGD 10-pad helmet liner as included, together with Velcro patches on the shell.
About Protection Group Denmark:
Protection Group Denmark (PGD) is a Danish-owned company headquartered in Randers, Denmark, and has supplied ballistic protection since 2013. PGD states that it holds ISO 9001:2015 certification for the design and production of ballistic protection gear and that its products are tested at Element Defense (USA) and Aitex (Spain). MSS Defence is the Dutch supplier for this product: we work on a quotation basis and give you one point of contact for advice, ordering and after-sales.
Intended use:
PGD states the PASGT is designed for both civilian and military use; the press refers to it as the 'journalist helmet'. Typical users are military personnel, journalists and security staff who need head protection against handgun rounds and fragments without a communications headset under the helmet.
